Our guest speaker for October is Capt(N) Chris Chalmers, the RCN's Director Naval Logistics. He will talk of his perspectives on the state of the RCN from a Logistician's standpoint.


Biography

CAPTAIN(N) C.B. CHALMERS, CD

Capt(Navy) Chris Chalmers has deep family roots in the Maritimes and was raised on the coast of stunning Vancouver Island, British Columbia. He is a graduate of the Joint Command and Staff Program and holds a bachelor’s from the University of Victoria and a master’s from the Royal Military College.

His tours and deployments include Op SEXTANT, Op PODIUM, Op PARALLELISM, Op POSEIDON, JIATF SOUTH, Op ARTEMIS, and Joint Task Force – Iraq. He also had the pleasure of serving on numerous Canadian warships as a logistician. Highlights include serving as Supply Officer on piracy disruption patrols in the Indian Ocean and as Deputy Commanding Officer of the Joint TF Support Component, providing an array of logistics support during Canada’s air campaign against Daesh forces in Iraq and Syria.

Ashore, Capt(Navy) Chalmers has held numerous positions as a sustainer across Canada and the Services of the Canadian Armed Forces. These include serving as Deputy Commanding Officer of the prestigious 3 Canadian Support Unit in Montreal and Commanding Officer of Base Logistics Halifax, the largest support unit in the Canadian Armed Forces. In National Defence Headquarters, he has held various staff positions, including Project Director of the Modernization Integration of Sustainment and Logistics initiative and Director of Operational Sustainment at Chief Combat Systems Integration within the Vice Chief of Defence Staff. Capt(Navy) Chalmers is currently serving as Royal Canadian Navy N4, Director Naval Logistics.

Capt(Navy) Chalmers is married, has two sons, and enjoys downhill skiing, mountain biking, and sailing. When he is not fixing things at his cottage, he can often be found volunteering on the slopes in the Outaouais.
