Our guest speaker for January is Richard Guitar, the NAC’s Salty Dips Committee Chair. He will present an overview of the fascinating stories to be found in the upcoming Volume 11 -- a collection of entertaining and informative Naval stories that were recounted by those who personally experienced them.
Biography
Richard Guitar is the Chair of the Naval Association of Canada’s Salty Dips Committee. Salty Dips is a collection of volumes of entertaining and informative stories that were recounted by those who personally experienced a Naval adventure, based on the premise that their stories are inherently interesting and historically relevant. Publication started in 1983, and Volume 12 is now being worked on.
Richard served with the Royal Canadian Navy for more than 25 years, starting out as an electrician and serving aboard three submarines, three Destroyers, a mine sweeper converted to a patrol boat, a frigate and a sailing ship, HMCS Oriole. From Leading Seaman Electrical Technician, he commissioned from the ranks and retired as a Logistics officer with the rank of Lieutenant-Commander, finishing his career in NDHQ to then work as contractor and Public Servant. He has a CD with clasp, Peace Keeping Medal, and Special Service Medal with a NATO clasp.
Richard is also the Poppy Chairman for Branch 632 (Orléans) of the Royal Canadian Legion and volunteers with Community Alley Trappers (a cat rescue group.) Married for 39 years to Donna Guitar, they have two daughters and two grandchildren.
