Our guest speaker  will be Captain Steven Teschendorf, the US Coast Guard attaché  in Ottawa.

Captain Teschendorf will present an overview of the USCG overview, and talk about USCG  partnerships with Canada, and provide an update on major USCG shipbuilding projects.

Coast Guard Attaché to Ottawa, Canada since June 2017

Captain (CAPT/O6) Teschendorf most recently served as Sector Commander, Sector Sault Ste Marie, MI from April 2013 to July 2016.  As the Sector Commander, he was responsible for all Coast Guard missions and served as the Captain of the Port, Officer-in-Charge of Marine Inspection, Federal Maritime Security Coordinator, Federal On-Scene Coordinator, and Search and Rescue Mission Coordinator for Lake Superior and northern Lakes Huron and Michigan.  This area of responsibility included eight Multi-Mission Small Boat Stations, two Aids to Navigation Teams, and Marine Safety Unit Duluth with over 320 Active Duty, 26 Civilian, 40 Reserve, and 400 Auxiliary members.

CAPT Teschendorf has over ten years of afloat experience including Command of USCG Cutter’s ALDER, SUNDEW (both in Duluth, MN), and BISCAYNE BAY (St. Ignace, MI), Executive Officer aboard BRISTOL BAY (Detroit), and Operations Officer on SASSAFRAS (Honolulu).  His shore assignments include Deputy Sector Commander at Sector Upper Mississippi River (St. Louis), Executive Officer at Vessel Traffic Service Houston-Galveston, and tours at Rescue Coordination Center Seattle, the Leadership Development Center (New London, CT), and Coast Guard Liaison to the Navy Warfare Development Command (Newport, RI).

CAPT Teschendorf has extensive command cadre (over 16-years of Commanding and Executive Officer positions), aids to navigation, icebreaking, and waterways management experience.  In addition, he has experience and qualifications in classroom instruction, command center operations, incident management, law enforcement, search and rescue, and vessel traffic services.

CAPT Teschendorf is a 1991 Coast Guard Academy graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and has a Master’s of Science degree in Organizational Management from Eastern Connecticut State University.  He is a 2016 Homeland Defense Fellow from the National Defense University’s College of International Security Affairs and a 2017 Joint Military Attaché School graduate.

CAPT Teschendorf is a native of Waukesha, Wisconsin.  He is married to the former Ms. Christine Ziemer of Las Cruces, New Mexico.  They have fraternal twin daughters Alexis and Sophia.
