"A World Class Shipyard in our Midst."

NAC Ottawa invites you to a video-conference presentation by Captain(N) (Retired) Tom Tulloch on Monday, 4 May 2019.

The Halifax Shipyard is a national strategic asset that dates from the creation of the still-used Graving Dock in 1889.  From its early decades supporting ships of the Royal Navy’s North American and West Indies Station, it has served as Canada’s front line ship repair facility in two World Wars and has built a significant number of warships for the Royal Canadian Navy throughout the previous and current centuries.  Revitalized in 2015, the Halifax Shipyard is today at the forefront of naval shipbuilding and repair in Canada.  The talk will touch on a brief history of the Halifax Shipyard before examining the current process to build the new class of Arctic and Offshore Patrol Ships for the Royal Canadian Navy and Canadian Coast Guard.

Our Guest Speaker

Tom Tulloch served 37 years in the Royal Canadian Navy, retiring as a Captain. He commanded two HMC Ships at sea and held various leadership roles ashore and afloat. Over the years he deployed for NATO Cold War deterrence operations in the North Atlantic, and for UN embargo enforcement, post-9/11 counter- terrorism and NATO counter-piracy operations throughout the Middle East; he was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal for his leadership in action against Somali pirates. Upon retiring from the Navy in 2015 he served for two years as the Special Adviser to the President of Irving Shipbuilding. A Dalhousie and Royal Military College graduate, Captain Tulloch is a RUSI(NS) member as well as a Fellow of the Royal Institute of Navigation and an Honorary Director of the Halifax Military Heritage Preservation Society.
